In September, 21-22, 2017, in Warsaw, Poland, the 3rd Scientific-Practical Conference of the European Vitamin D Association (EVIDAS) ‘Vitamin D: Minimum, Maximum, Optimum’ inviting famous experts from Europe and across the world.
In his opening speech, Prof. P. Pludowski, President of EVIDAS, from Warsaw, Poland, touched on the issues of Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency prevalence in the European population and Vitamin D’s status influencing various systemic diseases.
The keynote speaker of the Conference was a world-renowned expert on Vitamin D, Prof M. Holick (Boston University Medical Center, USA). In his lecture, he characterized Vitamin D pathways, emphasizing the role of solar insulation and Vitamin D prophylactic doses. He also focused on the Vitamin D role in multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes mellitus, and severe respiratory diseases.
The Ukrainian scientists are the regular participants of the international conferences organized by the EVIDAS. The current conference signified a major step forward for the Ukrainian medical community: the opening day witnessed holding a satellite symposium by the Ukrainian EVIDAS Chapter headed by Prof. Vladyslav Volodymyrovych Povoroznyuk
Symposium was opened by Prof. Vladyslav Volodymyrovych Povoroznyuk, spokesman for at the State Institution ‘D.F. Chebotaryov Institute of Gerontology’ by the NAMS Ukraine and the Ukrainian Scientific Center of Osteoporosis Problems (Kyiv, Ukraine), President of the Ukrainian EVIDAS Chapter, reporting on the recent findings concerning the Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency in Ukraine and results of the Ukrainian EVIDAS Chapter’s activities.
The symposium was also attended by the leading experts in the field of Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency in Ukraine:
- Prof. L.V. Kvashnyna, I.M. Martynenko (State Institution ‘Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology’ Gerontology’ by the NAMS Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine));
- Prof. Yu. I. Komissarenko (O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University (Kyiv, Ukraine));
- Prof. V.I. Pankiv (Ukrainian Scientific-Practical Center of Endocrine Surgery, Endocrine Organ and Tissue Transplantation by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine));
- N. I. Balatska, Doctor of Medical Sciences (secretary of the Ukrainian EVIDAS Chapter (Kyiv, Ukraine));
- N. I. Dzerovych, Doctor of Medical Sciences (State Institution ‘D.F. Chebotaryov Institute of Gerontology’ by the NAMS Ukraine, Ukrainian Scientific Center of Osteoporosis Problems (Kyiv, Ukraine));
- I.A. Shymansky, Candidate of Biological Sciences (O.V. Palladin Institute of Biochemistry by the NAS Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine));
- S.M. Martsynyak (Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics by the NAMS Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine)).
In conclusion, a few words should be said about the results of the Ukrainian EVIDAS Chapter’s activities. It is aimed at organizing and holding epidemiological studies, conferences, master-classes, participating in the international scientific endeavors on Vitamin D, spreading information on prophylaxis and treatment of Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency among the Ukrainian physicians and patients. Prof. Vladyslav Volodymyrovych Povoroznyuk, President of the Ukrainian EVIDAS Chapter, is a scientist of the international standing, active EVIDAS contributor. He cooperated with the working group on creating the new ‘Guidelines of treatment and prophylaxis of Vitamin D deficiency in the Eastern European population: recommended doses of Vitamin D drugs for the healthy population and risk groups’ (2013).

In 2013, the Ukrainian scientists co-authored a book “Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency: epidemiology, diagnostics, prophylaxis and treatment” with Prof. P. Pludowski.

The Ukrainian EVIDAS Chapter’s Members are regularly attending the international conferences in various countries and organizing annual international conferences in Ukraine inviting the international experts on Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency and bone-muscular diseases. We congratulate the Ukrainian EVIDAS Chapter on their stellar holding the satellite symposium during the 3rd International EVIDAS conference and wish them further active endeavors both in Ukraine and all over the world
